Garmin Forerunner 965 vs 570 – Which Should You Buy?

Since 2023, the Garmin Forerunner 965 has been its flagship AMOLED running watch, packed with premium features like offline mapping, a titanium bezel, and advanced training tools. It was replaced this month with the Forerunner 970. At the same time, the new mid-range Forerunner 570 was launched, and many are wondering which model to buy, especially since the older 965 can now be found on sale for less than the newer 570.

There are a number of feature differences between the two, but a few might be deal-breakers depending on what you value:

  • Maps: The Forerunner 965 includes full onboard topographic maps. The 570 does not offer mapping at all.
  • Speaker + Mic: The 570 adds a built-in speaker and microphone for phone calls, voice assistant, and more—this feature is missing on the 965.
  • Sizes: The 965 is only available in a 47mm size, while the 570 is available in both 42mm and 47mm versions—great if you want a smaller watch.
  • Elevate 5 HR Sensor: The Forerunner 570 features Garmin’s latest Elevate Gen 5 optical heart rate sensor, which offers improved accuracy and the addition of skin temperature tracking. However, it is the only watch in Garmin’s lineup that has the Gen 5 sensor but does not offer ECG readings. The 965 uses the older Gen 4 sensor and lacks ECG and temperature-based insights.
