Should You Buy the Quatix 8
The Garmin quatix 8 series is purpose-built for mariners, combining Fenix 8 performance with specialized marine features like chartplotter voice control, tide tracking, and remote access to compatible Garmin boat systems. Whether it’s right for you depends on how essential those marine-specific tools are to your lifestyle — or if you simply prefer the nautically styled design and AMOLED display.
Is It Worth the Upgrade? If you’re upgrading from an earlier quatix model, the quatix 8 offers several meaningful improvements: a brighter AMOLED display, new built-in mic and speaker for calls and voice commands, upgraded durability with leakproof metal buttons and a sensor guard, a dive rating to 40 meters, and an onboard flashlight.
The Evolution of The Quatix Line
The Garmin quatix series has evolved as a specialized extension of the Fenix line, designed for users needing advanced boating and marine-specific features. Early models focused on core functionality for sailors and anglers, such as autopilot control and tide tracking. At the same time, newer versions have expanded to include features like boat data streaming, wearable trolling motor remote capabilities, and integration with Garmin marine devices.
The quatix 7 series built on this legacy by introducing a marine-inspired design, multi-band GNSS, and enhanced battery performance. The lineup included three models: the quatix 7 Standard, quatix 7X Solar (featuring solar charging and a larger screen), and quatix 7 Pro (with additional features such as ECG functionality, an upgraded heart rate sensor, and an LED flashlight).
The quatix 8 continues this evolution with two AMOLED-based models (47mm and 51mm), both of which add a built-in microphone and speaker for hands-free calls and voice-controlled chartplotter commands. It also introduces leakproof metal buttons, a sensor guard, and dive rating up to 40 meters — all while improving durability and maintaining excellent battery life.
New Hardware and Design Features
The quatix 8 shares the same hardware updates of the Fenix 8. Below are a few highlights:
- New size option – This is the first release of the quatix with an AMOLED display that includes a 47mm size option alongside the 51mm.
- Microphone & Speaker Integration – The quatix 8 has gained additional smart functionality. With a built-in microphone and speaker, the quatix 8 allows for: voice control of the device and paired marine equipment, and leveraging the watch to control your smartphone assistant
- New Design – A new sensor guard protects the microphone and barometer, following the design of the Fenix 8.
